Fishing

Does your idea of outdoor adventure entail sitting in a boat or riverbank, drinking your favorite beverage while waiting for a bite on the line? Well, that certainly sounds like you’re a fishing person!

Fishing is the activity of hunting for fish by hooking, trapping, or gathering. It is a form of providing food via the harvesting of fish. However, nowadays fishing is both a recreational and professional sport.

There are many types of fishing methods such as spear fishing (imagine using a small trident type spear with a long handle then standing in shallow water and spearing the fish that swim around your feet), bow fishing (using a bow and arrow to fish in shallow water from above), fishing nets (meshes that are formed by knotting thin thread and thrown out to sea), dredging (a scoop made of chain mesh that is towed by a fishing boat), and of course the simple fishing line.

What you may be interested in could be sport fishing (sometimes game fishing). This is where by recreational fishing the primary reward is the challenge of finding and catching the fish rather than the food or money provided by the flesh of the fish. However, in many cases, sport fishers will also eat their catch. In the past, sport fishers, even if they did not eat their catch, almost always killed them to bring them to shore to be weighed or for preservation as trophies. Fishermen’s desire to improve the fishing resource have resulted in many sport fisherman releasing their catch alive, sometimes after fitting them with identifying tags and recording their details so as to aid fisheries research (known as tag and release).
